It’s a home-grown invasion. Creeping up like kudzu, What Cheer? will be appearing across Rhode Island no less than 5 times in the next two weeks.

But first, there’s new stuff in our webstore! Back by popular demand is the Providence City Seal Tee Shirt, with an optional European design on the back, and, on the super cheap, you can pick up some “curse of the Pandrew” mini comics that detail the gruesome deaths of each member of the band.

NOW, on to those shows:

Soundsession x 2 – Not one, but two nights at our favorite genre-defying music festivals in Providence!

Monday, July 19th, with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave, in the back lot of the Black Rep (Westminster and Union Streets) – show at 7pm

Saturday, July 24th, Brand New Day parade, starts at 10pm, roving freely through Downtown Providence

Monday, July 26th, the 201 (201 Westminster St., PVD) This show is both a benefit for Nicole Reinert AND Lightning Bolt’s tour homecoming show. DAMN! Tickets are $8 at the door. The question is…can we all fit?

THEN:

Saturday, July 31st and Sunday, August 1st – Newport Folk Festival, Fort Adams State Park
We open the fest both days, at 11am for the early birds, plus random surprise sets when you least expect it.

There you have it, kids. Out in the street, in the clubs and at the Fort. Bust out our your cutting shears and just try to stop us!

So last week, our friend DJ Bees Knees was visiting us in Providence. One of the funnest DJs ever, he has helped us out in various ways on trips to New Orleans. While here, he slapped together this little gem one afternoon. It’s not remix rocket science, but at 3 AM it’s just what you need.

Four Awesome Announcements

This spring, Providence’s Anchor Brain Records will be re-releasing our debut, We Blow, You Suck on vinyl and poster-record. Anchor Brain is home to Providence legends Six Finger Satellite and Chinese Stars, and we are thrilled to join their team! For now you can still purchase our CD through this website.

Providence emcee B. Dolan sampled our song, “Gladiator” for his song “Border Crossing.” The track, produced by Alias (with credit to our own Larry Mauk!), will appear on B. Dolan’s forthcoming album Fallen House, Sunken City, on local hero Sage Francis’ Strange Famous Records. We may make an appearance at the record release party in a few weeks!

3. Later this week, our performance at Zlatne Uste Golden Fest will appear on Pitchfork TV’s “Tunnel Vision.”

4. We’re headed to Europe this summer. More info soon!

We aren’t just hibernating, we are looking for more brass players. If you or someone you know plays trumpet, trombone or baritone, write to us at whatcheerbrigade@gmail.com.

You don’t need to show up the most perfect trumpet player, just be willing to practice and bring yourself up to speed, learn our songs, come to practice (2 nights a week during the regular season) and shows (a few a month, including tour! yes you’ll tour with us), and be excited to be part of our band.

Tons of fun and travel, great times, new skills, new experiences, amazing band mates, being part of a unique and wild group who delivers some unique and wild tunes. We are so lucky to get to do this!
